Charlotte, N.C. — David Frederick Ericson, 68, of Charlotte, departed this life peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, surrounded by his loving wife and son. David had suffered for the last several months while courageous­ly battling cancer.

He was born on July 20, 1950, in New London, the son of the late Oscar and Helen Ericson. He was a graduate of New London High School and a devoted member of Saint Matthews Church, Tolland, as well as a past member of The Knights of Columbus. His heritage was rooted in Connecticu­t where he grew up and spent most of his life. David started his career in IT at Wang Laboratori­es and was currently working at Wells Fargo as an informatio­n security analyst.

An avid history buff, David was a person who knew a lot about history, particular­ly world history and would oftentimes talk for hours sharing stories of his “Uncle Buddy” who was killed while serving his country in World War II as a member of the Edson (Marine) Raiders. He spent hundreds of hours over the years researchin­g and speaking with many of the surviving members of the Edson Raiders who fought alongside his uncle. In addition to history, he also enjoyed woodworkin­g and making beautiful furniture and other pieces for his family and friends. He was also an accomplish­ed guitarist who loved to entertain everyone.

David will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Caryn (Cote) Ericson; son, Jonathan and fiancé, Abigail, of Boston, Mass.; brothers, Harry and wife, Sandy, of Clearwater Beach, Fla., Carl and wife, Laraine, of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters, Janice Roark and husband, Patrick, of New London and Patrice Shaftner of Montville; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Alice Ericson; brothers, John and wife, Helen Ericson and Donald Ericson; and niece, Marylyn.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at St. Matthews Church, 111 Tolland Green, Tolland. Interment will follow in St Bernard’s Cemetery at the corners of Kingsbury Avenue and CT-74, Vernon. A reception for family and friends will be held immediatel­y following the interment at St. Matthews Church, Tolland.
