Esther Matthews

Waterford — Esther Louise Matthews, 92, of Waterford, passed away on Wednesday evening, Aug. 8, 2018.

She was born in Chiampo, Italy, on Feb. 26, 1926, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Benvenuti Faedo. Esther grew up in Torrington and graduated from Torrington High School. She met and married Kenneth Matthews and following his job, the family moved to Waterford. Esther worked for many years at the Waterford Public Library.

She was predeceased by Kenneth; her sister, Eleanor Adorno; and her grandson, Jeffrey Clark.

She is survived by her four daughters, Elise Matthews, Margo Burr and her husband, Harold, Andrea Pero and her husband, Nicholas and April Dipollina and her husband, Dominic. She was a grandmother to Peter Clark (Jen), Alex Buonanno (Ayreka), Eavynn Bolivar (Mauricio), Addy Robarge (Aaron), Iris Dipollina and Marcus Dipollina. She was a great-grandmother to Evan, Casey, Andrew, Rachel, Emberleigh, Integra, Matteo, Svea and Otto.

Esther will always be remembered for her family gatherings, wonderful baked goods and what she called “bummer cookies.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you perform acts of kindness in remembrance of her.
