WNBA honors Thomas
Sun point guard named to All-defensive first team
Connecticut Sun point guard Jasmine Thomas was named to the WNBA's All-Defensive First Team for the second consecutive season, the league announced Thursday.
The WNBA's 12 head coaches selected the teams by position.
“I take pride in playing hard on both ends of the floor,” Thomas said. “It's nice being recognized by other coaches for my defensive effort.”
Thomas led Connecticut in steals (37), the fourth straight season that she's had 35-or-more steals. She also had 85 defensive rebounds and was a second-team pick in 2016
“This is exciting news and a well-deserved honor for Jasmine,” Sun head coach and general manager Curt Miller said. “I appreciate that other coaches recognize the relentless effort that Jasmine plays with at the defensive end. She takes pride in her defense and is willing to put in the time off the court studying individual and team tendencies.”
Alana Beard (guard) of the Los Angeles Sparks was named the Defensive Player of the Year on Thursday and headlines the All-Defensive First team. Center Brittney Griner (Phoenix Mercury) and forwards Jessica Breland (Atlanta Dream) and Natasha Howard (Seattle Storm) round out the first team.
