OAKDALE MAN DIES IN ACCIDENT DURING CHASE

-

Montville — A 48-year-old Oakdale man is dead after crashing a vehicle during a police chase following an earlier crash Friday night.

Judd Moyer, driving a 1993 Geo Prizm, was seen hitting a vehicle in the parking lot of the Turnpike Cafe, 1048 Norwich-New London Turnpike, in Uncasville, according to an accident summary that state police released Saturday. He fled the scene and was engaging town police in pursuit, the report said.

About 9:50 p.m., as Moyer was attempting to evade police on Raymond Hill Road, the vehicle he was driving left the road, rolled over into a ditch and hit a tree, state police said. He suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

Mohegan EMS transported Moyer to the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, where he was pronounced dead, the summary said. His body was sent to the chief medical examiner for an autopsy and his family has been notified.

The Geo Prizm is owned by Brittany Baird of Oakdale, according to state police. It had to be towed from the scene.

The state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating the accident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the fatal crash, or the incidents preceding it, is asked to contact Trooper Joseph Hayward by calling (203) 6308085 or emailing joseph.hayward@ct.gov.
