Mystic — It is with a heavy heart to announce that Eleanor J. Pottie, 94, of Mystic, formerly of Norwich, died peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018.

She was a devoted wife, a loving mother/grandmothe­r/ great-grandmothe­r. A caring friend who touched all she met with her sunny optimism and an unshakable ability to find positive aspects in the ups and downs of life. She had a smile for everyone she met.

Elly had a full life. Born in Norwich in 1923, she attended local schools and was the daughter of Michael and Amelis Makowicki. She grew up with 13 brothers and sisters, of which one was her twin, Irene. They lived on a farm which was fondly called just “North Street.” Eleanor was the last of the North Street kids. The last of a remarkable generation.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Laren; and her daughter, Kathy.

She is survived by her two sons, David L. Pottie of Mystic and Kenneth Pottie and his wife, Kimberly, of Salem; five grandchild­ren, David C. Pottie, Kristina Dietz and her husband, Ian, Jillian and Michael Brady and Danny Vollmer; and two great-grandchild­ren, Sebastian and Kian.

The family would like to thank Elly’s caregivers who made the last years of her life so enjoyable. She called them her “Angels.” Tammy of Careco, and most of all Jilliann Perron, who she thought of as her own daughter. Plus Ann Pottie, the mother of her grandchild­ren, for her loving help and assistance.

A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. Following the service, calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Her burial will be private at a later date.
