North Palm Beach, Fla. — Donald Austin Parker, 82, of North Palm Beach, formerly of Tyler Avenue, Groton, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at Gardens Medical Center/Southbridg­e Hospice in Palm Beach Gardens with his two sons by his side.

Born on Aug. 11, 1935, in New London, Don was the son of William and Elizabeth (O’Connell) Parker. After graduating high school, Don joined the Army and was soon stationed in Germany as part of the allied occupation force attached to the 9th tank recon. Don was medically discharged after being injured in an accident on duty. With his career in the military cut short, Don attended Mitchell College, graduating with an associate’s degree in engineerin­g, then later obtaining a bachelor’s at UConn. Don was also a member of the Groton RTM and a life member of the Groton Lodge of Elks.

Don worked at Electric Boat, retiring after a career that spanned 36 years. He started as an engineerin­g intern, working hard and climbing the ranks, until retiring as a manager of engineerin­g.

Don met Claudette Reifeiss and found the love of his life. Don and Claudette were inseparabl­e until her passing in 2007. Together they raised two sons, traveled as much as possible, and enjoyed their time together.

He is survived by a sister, Sharon Dyer of New London; his sons, Michael Parker and his wife, Catherine Parker, of Hampton Roads, Va., and Jeffrey Parker with his wife, Yesenia Parker; and two grandchild­ren, Logan and Matthew Parker of Waterford.

Don was predecease­d by a sister, Margaret Eileen Myers of Waterford; and two brothers, William Parker of New London and John “Jay” Parker of Groton.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be a Mass at 10 a.m. Oct. 13, at St. Joseph’s in New London. Following the Mass, there will be a reception at Great Neck Country Club. Don and Claudette will be laid to rest together in Florida, in a private ceremony.
