East Lyme — It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved dad, Charles “Chuck” J. LaPlante, 95, of Niantic, on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018. Charles passed away peacefully after a short illness.

He was born Aug. 13, 1923, in Lawrence, Mass., the son of Joseph and May LaPlante.

Charles was predecease­d by his wife of 52 years, Claire.

He leaves behind two sons, Charles LaPlante Jr. of Niantic and Craig LaPlante and his wife, Holly, of Oakdale; a daughter, Colleen Gregson and her husband, Brian, of Southingto­n; two sisters, Zelda Murtha and Shirley Nott; six grandchild­ren and 10 great-grandchild­ren; as well as a very dear friend Helen Spinato.

Charles served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Pfizer and was a communican­t of St. Agnes Church. He was a volunteer and active member of the East Lyme Senior Center and a member of the American Legion.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Agnes Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be directed to the East Lyme Senior Center.
