Flock Theatre stages ‘Macbeth’ at Mitchell College Red Barn
Flock Theatre’s annual production of Macbeth returns this year to Mitchell College in New London, for a run Oct. 25-28.
The performance will combine elements of giant shadow puppetry, life-size puppets, darkness, and live acting to tell the tale. In addition to the nighttime performances, the production will be performed for various local schools at Saint Bernard High School on Halloween.
This is Flock Theatre’s first production in the new Mitchell College Red Barn as their resident theater company.
According to Flock, “Recent research regarding the play suggests that Macbeth is not simply being manipulated by the supernatural as a standard reading may suggest, but that he conspires with the three witches using code words and phrases recognized by the occult. Flock is capitalizing on the depth of Shakespeare’s language and methods of communication by exploring a sensebased performance of the text: the witches and Hecate will speak only in American Sign Language, shadow puppetry and the manipulation of darkness will be utilized, and food will even be served to direct taste and smell during special dinner performances.”
All shows begin at 7 p.m. at Mitchell College Red Barn, 629 Montauk Ave., New London. Tickets are $20 adults, $15 students, seniors, active military. It’s general admission, and seating is limited. Purchase tickets at bit.ly/flockmacbeth18.
The special dinner performance is Oct. 27, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the performance at 7. Food is provided by Tim Grills of Mitchell College Dining Services. Tickets are $50, and there is a cash bar. There is very limited seating.
