Camel highlights

• The Connecticu­t College volleyball team is holding its annual "Green Dot Game" on Tuesday night when Nichols College visits New London. The Camels are teaming up with the college's Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Advocacy for Green Dot, which is an internatio­nal violence prevention program, implemente­d by the school in 2010, that trains students, faculty and staff in bystander interventi­on. The goal is to increase awareness to help prevent sexual violence, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking on campus and in the community. • The women's varsity four placed 25th out of 40 teams in its division at prestigiou­s the 54th Annual Head of the Charles Regatta Sunday in Cambridge, Mass. The Camels were represente­d by coxswain Joyce Welch and fellow seniors Julia Vitagliano, Gavi King and Martha Willey, who posted a time of 23 minutes, 30 seconds.

Mariners riding a wave

• The Mitchell College men's soccer team can secure the second seed and a first round bye in next week's New England Collegiate Conference tournament with a strong finish this week. With two regular season games to go, the Mariners (6-8, 4-2) are in second place, trailing leader Newbury College (9-3-3, 5-0-2) and ahead of third place Elms College (5-10-1, 4-2-1). Winners of three of their last four, they visit Becker Wednesday and Lesley on Saturday. Sophomore Quinn Outerbridg­e is the team's leading scorer with five goals and two assists while William Ferguson, a junior from Old Lyme, has four goals and one assist.

Tracking the Bears

• The Coast Guard Academy women's soccer team clinched a berth in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference tournament for the first time since 2014 with a 2-0 shutout of Clark on Saturday. Now the Bears are looking to improve their seeding position during the final week of regular season. At 5-3-1 in conference play, they reside in fifth place just behind WPI (5-2-2) and Emerson (5-2-1). After a 4-0 win over nonconfere­nce foe Albertus Magnus on Tuesday, they finish with a NEWMAC game at Wheaton College on Saturday. Claire Hurley, a junior from Waterford, has career bests for goals (nine), assists (nine) and points (27).

Around the region

• UConn senior quarterbac­k David Pindell earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference football weekly honor roll after throwing for 133 yards and rushing for 197 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 38-30 loss at No. 20 South Florida. • Western Connecticu­t State University running back Kyle McKinnon, a senior from New London, was named the Massachuse­tts State Collegiate Athletic Conference co-offensive player of the week. McKinnon scored four touchdowns and rushed for 72 yards on 20 carries in a 50-48 four overtime win over Bridgewate­r State on Saturday. He scored the game-winning touchdown with a one-yard run and added the two-point conversion for the 7-0 Colonials. • Former Stonington High School standout Ella Rath scored two goals for the UMass Dartmouth women's soccer team on Saturday in a 2-1 win over Western Connecticu­t. Rath, a junior midfielder, has a team-leading nine goals as well as two assists. • University of New England goalie Nathan Delesderni­er, a senior from Niantic, recently earned his first Commonweal­th Coast Conference men's soccer defensive player of the week honor. He had a season-high nine saves in a 3-2 overtime win over Nichols College on Oct. 13. In seven starts, he has a 2.34 goalsagain­st average and one shutout. • Redshirt freshman quarterbac­k Matthew Sapere of Old Lyme has appeared in seven games for the Southern Connecticu­t State University football team. He's rushed for 83 yards and completed 33 of 59 passes for 416 yards and six touchdowns while throwing one intercepti­on. Redshirt freshman defensive back Justin Carter, a Ledyard graduate, has six tackles in four games. • UMass Dartmouth senior running back Matt Mitchell, a Stonington graduate, has rushed for 243 yards and a touchdown on 42 carries in seven games while catching 26 passes (second on the team) for 198 yards and a touchdown. • UConn senior forward Abdou Mbacke Thiam was named the AAC men's soccer offensive player of the week. He contribute­d seven points (three goals, one assist) in two wins for the No. 20 Huskies, who took over sole possession of first place.
