Conn men clinch No. 2 seed

Middletown — Connecticu­t College, ranked seventh in the latest Division III national poll, finished its regular season with a 1-0 victory over Wesleyan in a New England Small College Athletic Conference men's soccer match Tuesday night.

The Camels (12-1-2, 7-1-2) won the match courtesy of a goal by senior captain Ben Highton in the 68th minute.

Conn will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NESCAC tournament and will host No. 7 Hamilton in the quarterfin­als on Saturday. In other matches: • Senior Greg Burnham scored in the 32nd minute to lift Coast Guard Academy to a 1-0 road victory over UMass Dartmouth in nonconfere­nce game. It was the fifth goal of the season for Burnham, who was assisted by Patrick Palermo-Re. Goalie Dakota Harich made three saves for the Bears (6-8-3) and posted his third shutout of the season.

• Dayon Harris scored with 37 seconds remaining to lift UConn to a 3-2 win over Vermont at Morrone Stadium. Mbacke Abdou Thiem, who tied the game for the Huskies (10-2-2) in the 70th minute with his 12th goal, assisted on the game-winner.

Women's soccer

• Junior Claire Hurley of Waterford had two assists to set Coast Guard's single-season record (nine) as the Bears rolled to a 4-0 nonconfere­nce win over Albertus Magnus. Felicia Lombardi, Sabrina Robertson, Brielle Pearce and Kylee Ballard scored goals for the Bears (9-6-1).

• Conn College's season came to an end after playing Wesleyan to a 2-2 tie in the NESCAC. The Camels (7-6-2, 2-6-2) needed a win to qualify for the conference tournament. Alex Baltazar and Mia Santana of New London scored for Conn.

Volleyball

• Amherst outlasted Coast Guard 3-1 in a nonconfere­nce match. Game scores were 2522, 20-25, 25-22, 25-11. Angelou Dunton, Bridget Boyle and Amanda Dake had 12 kills apiece for the Bears (17-11) while Veronica Hine had 15 digs, Dake 11 digs, Makenna Martin 42 assists and seven digs and Alex Kempf five blocks.

• Conn College cruised to a 25-9, 25-13 and 25-21 nonconfere­nce victory over Nichols. Emma Roberts finished with four aces for the Camels (1013) while Grace McGee had 16 assists and seven digs.

• Mitchell College dropped a 25-23, 25-13 and 25-18 decision to Dean College in the New England Collegiate Conference. Cameron Childs had 16 assists and 10 digs for the Mariners (3-15, 2-6).
