Judge continues case of woman charged in officer’s stabbing NTSB officials: Plane broke apart before Long Island fatal crash
Hartford (AP) — A judge has continued the case of a Connecticut woman charged with stabbing and seriously injuring a police officer.
The Hartford Courant reports that a judge has continued Chevoughn Augustin’s case to Dec. 5.
Augustin’s lawyer, public defender George Flores, said a psychiatrist has been retained to evaluate Augustin. That work is continuing.
The 39-year-old Augustin faces charges including attempted murder for stabbing Hartford Officer Jill Kidik in the neck in May.
Kidik had responded to an apartment complex for reports of a disturbance involving Augustin, who was facing eviction. Building maintenance workers were credited with saving Kidik.
Augustin is being held on $2 million bond.
Kidik, who suffered lacerations to her jugular vein and trachea, continues to recover at home and has said she intends to return to work.
New York — Federal transportation officials say a plane that crashed off Long Island earlier this month, killing all three people aboard, had broken up before hitting the water.
Newsday reports the National Transportation Safety Board’s preliminary report says the twin-engine Piper PA34 “was substantially damaged when it experienced an inflight breakup” and crashed in about 20 feet of water south of Quogue, N.Y., in the Hamptons on Oct. 13.
Authorities say 41-year-old Munidat “Raj” Persaud, of Waterbury was flying the plane from Connecticut to Charleston, S.C., when it crashed.
New York State Police identified the passengers as 45-yearold Jennifer Landrum, of Augusta, Ga., and 53-year-old Richard Terbrusch, of Ridgefield, Conn.
Persaud’s body was found shortly after the crash. The bodies of Landrum and Terbrusch were found the next day.
