Conn goalkeeper AJ Marcucci named to Division III All-America first team

Connecticu­t College goalkeeper AJ Marcucci was named to the United States Soccer Coaches Division III All-America first team on Thursday night during a banquet on the eve of the NCAA Final Four in Greensboro, N.C.

Marcucci, a sophomore from West Chester, Pa., led the Camels (13-3-2) to their best season in program history by leading the nation with a .929 save percentage while allowing 0.28 goals per-game, second in the nation, and recording 11 shutouts.

Marcucci, the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Year, becomes the 12th All-America selection in Conn College history and the first player since Peter Spear (1993) to make the first team.

Conn set a single-season record for wins (13), qualified for the NCAA Division III tournament and won a NCAA tournament match for the first time with a 4-0 win over Thomas College in the first round.

Men's basketball

• Waterford's Trevor Yeomans had 19 points and six rebounds as UConn Avery Point outlasted Ben Franklin Institute 67-60 in overtime. Montville's John Domijan added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Pointers (3-6) while Elijah Malbeouf-Boyd had 14 points and nine rebounds and NFA's Alec Gomes had 10 points.

Women's basketball

• Sami Ashton had 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists as Conn College remained unbeaten with a 61-46 non-conference road win over Worcester State. Margaret Corcoran added 11 points and six rebounds for the Camels (6-0) while Kaitlyn Berkel, a St. Bernard graduate, had 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots for Worcester (5-3).

College honors

• Two former East Lyme athletes were named to the 2018 New England Small College Athletic Conference Fall All-Academic team.

Cara Bradley, a junior member of the Trinity College field hockey team, was honored for the second straight year as was Izzy Moore, a junior member of the Tufts University women's soccer team.

In addition, Conn College had 45 student-athletes honored by the NESCAC, including seniors Tyler Hoadley and Ben Manoogian (men's soccer), Cara McConaughe­y, Enya McGarry and Jamie Navoni (field hockey), and Sam Miesemer (women's soccer), who were all honored for the third time.

Conn College's other NESCAC All-Academic team honorees, by sport, were:

Men's cross country: Finn Boed, Spencer Crough, Scott Mason, Josh Simensky.

Women's cross country: Eva Brydson, Miya Cohen, Mimi Crawford, Julianna Donovan, Megan Feragne, Hannah Noyes, CeCe Orcutt, Ki Ryeong Park, Sara Topalovic.

Field hockey: Hannah Falvey, Kaja Hartwell, Courtney Peyko, Sophie Pollinger.

Men's soccer: Peter Berkanish, AJ Marcucci, Justin Miranda, Freddy Stokes, Freddie Yao.

Women's soccer: Amelia Andrews, Emily Angeli, Jessica Foley, Cate Howe, Maxie Johnson, Alyssa Kogelmann, Sara Kogelmann, Tori Kretzmer, Kat Norton, Erin O'Brien Powers, Cameron Peyko, Zoe Stublarec, Chelsea Vickers, Sarah Williams.

Volleyball: Elle Kass, Dayna McCue, McKaela Simons.
