Corcoran leads Conn College women to victory

New London — Margaret Corcoran had a game-high 24 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and three blocks as the Connecticu­t College women's basketball team used a dominant third quarter to beat Roger Williams on Thursday night, 65-53.

Conn trailed 33-24 at halftime. It outscored the Hawks in the third quarter, 23-6.

Sami Ashton made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 5 minutes, 23 seconds left in that period to give the Camels a 37-35 lead.

Ashton scored 13 with a game-high four assists for Conn (8-1) and Caroline Pangallo scored 10.

Karli Opalka had 12 points and five rebounds for Roger Williams (3-6). In other games: • Waterford's Mia Brennan had 25 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals as seventh-ranked Avery Point routed Dutchess Community College (N.Y), 94-44.

Rebekah Sanders of Quaker Hill had 12 points and 18 rebounds, Ashley Burke and Kalianna Dingui both scored 13, and Julitza Delgado scored 10 for the Pointers (7-2). Dutchess is 0-7.

Men's basketball

• Trevor Yeomans of Waterford scored 26 as Avery Point rallied from a 21-point deficit for a 77-76 win over the Mitchell College junior varsity. John Domijan of Montville had 13 points, 10 rebounds and drew a charge in the final seconds to seal the win for Avery Point (4-8) and Elijah Malboeuf-Boyd added 21 points and 13 rebounds.

• Naval Prep beat St. Thomas More, 76-68. Nick MacDonald had 18 points, Wayne Bristol scored 16, Ryo Kobayashi scored 10 and Brendan McGuire had nine rebounds and nine assists for the Chancellor­s (7-4).

Men's hockey

• Julius Mattila scored three goals and an assist as Boston College beat UConn 4-0 in a Hockey East game. Logan Hutsko also scored for the Eagles (5-6-2, 5-1-2). Adam Huska made 23 saves for the Huskies (5-10-1, 2-8-1).

Gordon to transfer from UConn

• Sophomore guard/forward Lexi Gordon has decided to transfer from the UConn women's basketball program, as announced by head coach Geno Auriemma on Thursday.

“Lexi has been a great teammate in her time at UConn, but we understand that she wants to go somewhere where she will have more opportunit­ies to play,” Auriemma said. “We wish Lex and her family the best as she continues her college career elsewhere.”

“I would like to thank the coaching and support staffs, the fans and most importantl­y, my teammates, at UConn,” said Gordon. “I am grateful for my time at Connecticu­t. I've learned what it takes to be part of a championsh­ip program and I look forward to taking this experience to the next stop in my basketball and academic career.”

Gordon has appeared in 30 games at UConn, including four this season. She averaged 0.4 points.
