Key for Democrats is govern with moderation
Democrats now have the U.S. House of Representatives and must prove they know how to govern. If they cannot do this the 2020 election might be a repeat of the 2016 election, President Trump losing the popular vote by millions but winning the Electoral College.
The Democrats must focus on what matters to the people in the states they need to win and that means putting up a moderate candidate, focusing on issues that matter, like health care. They must focus on Trump’s policies and not be seen as vindictive.
I don’t feel Senator Bernie Sanders can win a national election, nor can any other progressive, and if they begin to act as if other Democrats are their enemy they will hamstring the attempt to defeat Trump in 2020. Let the Mueller report speak for itself and work with Republicans to create a reasonable response.
When Trump lies, prove it. Focus on Trump’s weak spots; come up with a health care plan that is a compromise between progressives and moderates and pass it. Doesn’t matter if the Senate or Trump won’t get on board, they will be seen as a block to progress.
Pass legislation that restores checks on the banks; address immigration; increase regulations to protect workers. Moderation works. Robert Lamperelli Stonington
