Gales Ferry — Douglas Mills Chichester, 82, of Gales Ferry, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019 at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London after a battle with cancer.

Doug was born in New Haven on Aug. 2, 1936, the son of the late Jerome and Elsie Mills Chichester. He married Mary Lou McBride on June 21, 1958 in Short Beach, Connecticu­t.

He graduated from the UConn School of Business in 1958. Doug retired as a partner in the Seward and Monde accounting firm in 1998 and was a member of the Connecticu­t Society of Certified Public Accountant­s. He was a past president and past treasurer of both the Groton Lions Club and the Thames Club in New London. Doug enjoyed bowling and playing golf. He was an avid fan of the UConn Huskies, Red Sox and Patriots. Doug will be remembered best for his devotion to his family.

Besides his wife he is survived by his daughters, Diane and husband Dan Olsen of Lisbon, Mary Lynn and husband Gary Burke of Ft. Mill, S.C., Donna and husband Travis Epes of Lisbon, his brothers, Greg (Betsy) of Clinton and Russell (Linda) of Austin, Texas, eight grandchild­ren and seven great-grandchild­ren. Doug was predecease­d by his son, Douglas M. Chichester, Jr., and his brother, Steven Chichester.

Visiting hours will be held from 11 a.m. on Saturday until the start of a funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St. New London.
