TWO FROM MONTVILLE DIE IN I-395 CRASH

- — Mary Biekert

Norwich — State police say two people were killed and one seriously injured in a three-vehicle collision in the northbound lanes of Interstate 395 just north of Exit 14 around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

John D. Adams, 85, and his passenger Joan Adams, 79, both of Montville, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said John Adams was driving southbound in his 2006 Buick Lucerne when his vehicle veered into the right shoulder of the highway, then back across both travel lanes and into the median, before striking the metal beam guard rail and crossing over into northbound traffic. Once in the northbound lanes, Adams’ Buick struck a 2011 Toyota Corolla, seriously injuring its driver, Amber Nicole Castle, 23, of Norwich.

The Buick then rolled to its side, where it was then struck by a 2015 Toyota Sienna. The occupants of the Toyota Sienna, Mark James Gaudette, 34; Jamie Elizabeth Gaudette, 34; and Ian Gaudette, 2, all of Jewett City, were all uninjured, police said.

Castle was transported to The William W. Backus Hospital and later to Hartford Hospital for treatment. The condition of Castle was not available Sunday.

State police closed Interstate 395 northbound, as well as the left lane of 395 southbound, between exits 14 and 18, for several hours after the accident.

Police said the accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Troop E at (860) 848-6500.
