North Stonington — Albert (Rie) A. Banks Jr., 82, of North Stonington, passed away peacefully at home Jan. 14, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 28, 1936, in Mystic, to Albert Banks and Gertrude Smith Banks. Rie graduated from Fitch Sr. High School. On Aug. 17, 1957, he married his beloved wife, Patricia A. McDonough, who predecease­d him May 5, 2013.

Rie was also predecease­d by his son, Arthur Banks; his grandson, Bruce Burroughs Jr.; his sister, Viola Porter; and brothers, Lloyd Chapman, Bernard Startz, Walter Startz, and Donald Banks.

Rie will be sadly missed by his children, Cherie and Larry Harland, Albert Banks III, and Brenda and Bruce Burroughs. He will also be missed by his grandchild­ren, Larry Harland (Samantha), Karen Chandonnai­t (Rich), Michael Burroughs, Bruce Burroughs (Jillian), and Sydney Banks; along with great-grandchild­ren, Tyler, Adyson, and Waylon; and many nieces and nephews.

Rie worked at Pfizer for several years before retiring due to health issues. Rie enjoyed traveling back to PEI to visit family. His last trip to the island was in August of 2017.

Rie spent much of his life on the water. Many years were spent in the spring and fall with his best friend, Bob Babcock, at Bob’s home on Block Island with many of their friends. They worked on the boats, the house, playing poker, and spent many hours on the water fishing, digging quahogs, scalloping, and setting traps for lobster.

A celebratio­n of his life will be held at noon Jan. 26 at the Westerly Yacht Club, 1 Watch Hill Road, Westerly, R.I.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Pawcatuck Neighborho­od Center, 27 Chase St., Pawcatuck, CT, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic, is assisting the family.
