Unbeaten Waterford boys rout Fitch for 10th straight win

Waterford — Payton Sutman had 15 points and seven rebounds as Waterford used a big first quarter to take down Fitch, 76-51, in a matchup of Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II boys' basketball leaders on Tuesday night.

The Lancers led 22-2 after one quarter.

JJ Brennan had 15 points and three steals and Liam Spellman had seven points and 10 rebounds for Waterford (10-0, 3-0), ranked sixth in the GameTimeCT/New Haven Register Top 10 poll. Cadin Maynard added seven rebounds and Nate Landon six rebounds and two blocks.

Kiev Lucas scored 16 points, Ajia Brown 15 and Seamus Greaves 11 for the Falcons (5-4, 2-1). In other games: • Dev Ostrowski had 29 points to pace seventh-ranked East Lyme past New London 62-47 in an ECC Division I game.

Luke Leonard had 13 points and Nate Diaz 12 for the Vikings (9-1, 3-0). Noah James scored 23 for the Whalers (2-7, 0-3).

• Josh Perry scored 24 points to as Lyman Memorial defeated Montville 59-53 in an ECC Division IV game.

Griffin Pontbriant had 12 points for the Indians (4-5, 1-2) and Zach Southard added 10.

Girls' basketball

• Britney DeRoehn had 15 points as Old Lyme shook off a slow first quarter and beat North Branford 42-37 in a Shoreline Conference game. North Branford led by as much as 11-2 in the first quarter before the Wildcats outscored the Thunderbirds 13-2 in the second quarter. Emily DeRoehn added 12 points for Old Lyme (7-4, 5-4).

• Miranda Arruda had 13 points, five steals, four rebounds and three assists as Stonington defeated Fitch 54-29 in an ECC Division II game. Sophia Bell had 15 points, four rebounds and three steals, Aliza Bell had eight points, nine rebounds and five steals, and Kate Johnson had nine points and seven rebounds for Stonington (9-3, 4-0). Alyssa Virtue had 10 points, four rebounds and two steals for the Falcons (4-8, 1-4).

• Megan Bauman had 21 points and Sophie Dubreuil scored 20 as East Lyme beat Woodstock Academy 6542 in an ECC Division I game. Katie Durkee added 11 points for the Vikings (8-5, 1-2), who outscored Woodstock 22-10 in the fourth quarter.

• Kellie Nudd scored 11 of her 17 points in the second half and added six rebounds in Bacon Academy's 4628 win over Waterford in an ECC Division II game. Bridget Anderson had seven points and eight steals for Bacon (10-2, 4-0). Milly Walker scored eight points for the Lancers (3-7, 1-3).

• Tajeah Winston had 15 points and 10 rebounds as Ledyard outlasted Lyman Memorial 45-41 in overtime. Samantha Money added 13 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Colonels (4-6) while Miranda Chesnut finished with seven points and eight rebounds.

Women's basketball

• Rebekah Sanders of Quaker Hill had 14 points and set an Avery Point single-game record with 28 rebounds as the Pointers routed Gateway Community College 100-51. Waterford's Mia Brennan had 36 points, 15 assists and eight steals, Miriam Dugas had 15 points and 20 rebounds, and Ashley Burke had 26 points and seven rebounds for the Pointers (6-9).

• Amina Wiley had 18 points, 15 rebounds, five steals, four assists and two blocks as Mitchell College used a first-half blitz to down Eastern Nazarene 71-49 in an New England Collegiate Conference game. Le'Sandra Turner had 17 points, four assists and three steals and Kate McCormack added 10 points, seven assists and four rebounds for the Mariners (9-5, 8-0), who led 42-19 at halftime.

Men's basketball

• Nick MacDonald scored 17 points to lead St. Thomas More to a 69-50 win over Army Prep. Ryo Kobyoshi scored 12 and Brendan McGuire had eight rebounds for T-More (13-7).

Boys' hockey

• Guilford beat the Eastern Connecticut Eagles 7-4. Guilford (8-2) is the top-ranked team in the CIAC's Division II. Evan Tower had two goals and two assists, Kyle Jacobson had a goal and two assists, and Ryan Huta had a goal and an assist for the Eagles (6-4). Rylin Fowler added 21 saves.
