ROLLOVER IN NORWICH
Responders from the Yantic and East Great Plain fire departments stand by at the scene of a tractor-trailer rollover on exit 13B from I-395 north to Route 2 west on Friday. The driver of the truck managed to get out of the wreck before firefighters arrived and was transported to the hospital for evaluation. The truck was carrying rolls of plastic sheeting.
Norwich — A tractor-trailer accident down the embankment on Interstate 395 on Friday morning closed the northbound Exit 13B off-ramp and left the driver with minor injuries, according to the state Department of Transportation and state police.
State police said the truck was driving on the ramp heading for Route 2 west, when its trailer slid into the left shoulder and struck a wire cable guardrail about 7:36 a.m.
“The trailer breached the guardrail and began to roll over onto its left side and into a graded embankment, dragging” the vehicle with it, police said. The top of the trailer hit a cluster of trees, bringing the truck to a stop on its left side facing east, police said.
The truck was driven by Joey Vedette Isaac, 41, of Brooklyn, N.Y., police said. He managed to get out of the wreck and was taken by American Ambulance to Backus Hospital, according to Yantic fire Chief Frank Blanchard.
The state DOT was notified of the road closure and the damage to approximately 200 feet of guardrail.
