Tough break for EL

Ostrowski has foot surgery that will likely end his Viking career

- By MIKE DiMAURO

East Lyme — Dev Ostrowski, who recently eclipsed 2,000 career points at East Lyme High School, is likely done for the season, following surgery Thursday to an injured foot.

Steve Ostrowski said Friday that his son sustained a Jones (stress) fracture to the fifth metatarsal bone on his right foot during last Saturday's loss to New London.

Mr. Ostrowski said his son's season is "almost certainly" done, but that he is expected to make a full recovery.

"The doctor said it's probably been there for a while. Dev has a high tolerance for pain," Steve Ostrowski said.

Dev Ostrowski missed much of the summer AAU basketball because of a bout with appendicitis in June.

"Dev called me from the doctor's office when he heard the extent of the injury," Steve Ostrowski said. "I asked him how he was doing and he said, 'there's nothing I can do about it, so we just move on.'"

Dev Ostrowski led the Vikings to the 2018 Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I title, to the ECC Tournament championship game and to the Division III state quarterfinals last season.

East Lyme is closing in on another regular season title this year as well.

The Vikings are the only team thus far to defeat Waterford this season, led by Ostrowski's 37 points.

Dev Ostrowski will attend Miami Dade Junior College in the fall. m.dimauro@theday.com
