New London — Tai Pa­gan had 18 points and 16 re­bounds as No. 2 New London beat Cromwell 57-46 in a non­league girls' bas­ket­ball game on Satur­day night. Xaryia Melendez had 18 points and eight re­bounds, Spencer Ro­man had seven as­sists and Jay­den Burns had four steals for the Whalers (17-2), who fin­ish up their reg­u­lar sea­son by host­ing East Lyme to­day at 5:30 p.m. Vanessa Stol­sta­jner scored 20 points for Cromwell (16-3).

Men's in­door track

• Coast Guard fresh­man James Duren ran a ca­reer-best 49.68 in the 400 me­ters on Satur­day at Bos­ton Uni­ver­sity's Dave He­mery In­vi­ta­tional, good for 57th place. Josiah Davis had a 28th-place fin­ish for the Bears in the 800, run­ning a 1:52.54. Coast Guard's 4x400 re­lay team of Miguel Moroles, Duren, Daniel Taglianetti and Davis were 20th in a sea­son-best 3:20.48.

Danny Aschale of Con­necti­cut Col­lege ran one of the top 10 times in Div. III this sea­son, fin­ish­ing the 3,000 in 8:18.90 which was good for 40th place. Conn's Ian McAleer broke the school record in the 200 with a time of 22.55, com­ing in 77th.

• Coast Guard also com­peted at MIT's Gor­don Kelly In­vi­ta­tional on Satur­day. Ben Zar­lengo led the way with a sec­ond-place fin­ish in the weight throw at 56-feet, 2-inches. Lo­gan Bon­ner was third in the 3,000 (9:17.67) and Ge­of­frey Delo­rie was fourth in the 1,000 (2:57.12).

Women's in­door track

• Coast Guard took three of the top four spots in the 5,000 on Satur­day at MIT's Gor­don Kelly In­vi­ta­tional. Mia Hun­chareck was sec­ond in 19:16.85, fol­lowed by Nay­alina Ta­ma­riz (19:17) and Nina Ra­gle (19:21.79). Leilani Salang of Coast Guard was fourth in the shot with a put of 37-6.5.

• The 4x400 re­lay from Con­necti­cut Col­lege fin­ished 42nd at Bos­ton Uni­ver­sity's Dave He­mery In­vi­ta­tional on Satur­day. El­lie Ebby, Shan­non Kennedy, Ri­ley Per­agine and Ali­cia Palmer fin­ished with a time of 4:03.94.
