OTIS LIBRARY TO HOST EXHIBIT ON WOMEN’S ACHIEVEMENTS

-

Norwich — Otis Library will host the exhibit “We Fight for Roses, Too” on historic achievements by women, from March 4-30 in the Millie and Martin Shapiro Community Room.

The exhibit, on loan from the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame, is dedicated to the stories, struggles, and achievements of women who have shaped the culture and society of Connecticut and the nation.

The title of the exhibit is from the well-known women’s labor song “Bread and Roses,” which includes the lyrics: “Small art and love and beauty their drudging spirits knew. Yes, it is bread we fight for, but we fight for roses, too.”

An opening reception will be held on Monday, March 4, at 6 p.m. with a performance of “Aunt Hattie’s House,” a one-woman historical play with actor, producer and playwright Emma Palzere-Rae. She will portray Harriet Beecher Stowe, the 19th-century Connecticut author of the acclaimed novel “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.”

The program, sponsored by the Elsie Brown Fund, is free and refreshments will be provided. The library at 261 Main St., Norwich, is accessible to people with disabilities.
