• The Coast Guard Academy men’s lacrosse team was picked to finish second in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference preseason poll. The Bears received two first place votes and placed behind defending

conference champion Springfiel­d, which collected six votes. The Bears return a strong group, including league co-defensive player of the year Trey Johnson, a senior goalie, and junior Riley McNulty, who had 44 goals and 27 assists last season. After winning their season opener on Saturday, beating Elizabetht­own, 10-1, they are ranked 20th in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Division III national poll.

• Seniors Micaela Martinelli and Johanna Moolenaar appeared in the final women’s basketball game of their CGA careers on Saturday, a 73-65 loss to MIT. Martinelli had a team-best 14 points, raising her career total to 954, which is 12th all-time in program history. She finished 14th in career rebounds with 531. The Bears ended 7-18 overall, 5-11 in the conference. • The men’s basketball team also said goodbye to their senior class in a 97-83 road loss at Emerson on Saturday. Daniels and Bryce Schroeder also ended their careers. The Bears (16-8, 7-7) finished with their most wins and first winning season since 2007-08 as well as matching the program’s best total for conference victories.
