Connecticut College junior Sami Ashton tied the NESCAC women’s basketball tournament record for most points in a game with 29 in a quarterfinal loss to top-seeded Bowdoin last weekend. Ashton went 12 for 19 from the field, including 3 for 6 from 3-point range, and made both of her foul shots. This season, she led the Camels (13-11) in scoring at 16.2 points per game and added 4.7 rebounds. They finished with a winning overall record for the sixth straight season. • After dropping a weekend series to Hamilton, the women’s hockey team received the seventh seed in the conference tournament. The Camels (10-10-3) extended their streak of NESCAC post-season appearances to 12 straight seasons. They visit No. 2 Middlebury (14-6-3) Saturday in the quarterfinals. In the regular season, Conn dropped a 3-0 decision and tied 1-1 in overtime. The Camels have one of the stingiest defenses in league play, ranking second in goals allowed (23), but scored just 20, second fewest. They were shut out eight times and have five shutouts. Senior goalie Bailey Mertz had a sparkling conference-best 1.00 goals against average while senior Jordan Cross (eight goals, six assists) and Elena Gualtieri (five goals, seven assists) are the leading scorers. • Please send college notes submissions to g.keefe@theday.com
