Montville clinches share of ECC Div. III baseball title

Stonington — Colby Miner pitched a one-hitter, losing his no-hit bid with two outs in the seventh, as Montville clinched at least a share of the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division III baseball title with a 4-0 victory of Stonington on Tuesday.

The Indians (15-3, 7-0) can win the title outright by winning at Lyman Memorial on Thursday. Lyman (6-1 in the division) can share the title with a victory.

Miner, who needed only 56 pitches in his complete-game victory, allowed only a single to Stonington's Jake Verbridge. The Bears are 8-11, 2-5.

Rob DelaCruz had three of Montville's six hits. In other games: • No. 7 Ledyard scored four runs in the of the seventh inning and beat Bacon Academy 9-6 in an ECC Division II game.

Peter Kiefer's RBI double started the scoring in the seventh and broke a 5-5 tie. Riley Gagnon homered twice, including a two-run shot in the seventh, and drove in five runs for Ledyard (15-3, 7-0).

Luke LaSaracina was 3-for-3 for Bacon (5-11, 3-4).

• Valley Regional took a 3-0 lead and hung on for a 3-2 win over Old Lyme. Liam Holloway, Eli St. Germain, Liam Flanagan and Zander Riggs each had two hits for the Wildcats (9-9).

• Grasso Tech beat Prince Tech 10-4 in a Connecticu­t Technical Conference game.

Robert Holland had two hits for Grasso (6-7) and teammate Cameron Polen scored twice.

Boys' golf

• Stonington and Fitch played to a 3.5-3.5 tie and each team beat Montville 7-0 in a tri-match at the Norwich Golf Club. RJ Parrilla of Stonington was the medalist with a 3-over-par 39.

Fitch (10-2-1) got wins from Colin Fahey, Nishant Patel and Casey Adams and teammate Drew McCormack and Stonington's Jacob Geary halved their match at 40. Stonington (7-3-1) won the medal point 172-177. Montville is 4-8.

• Old Lyme's Connor Maguire was the medalist with a 42 as the Wildcats beat East Hampton 178-225 in a Shoreline Conference match at Black Hall Club.

Thomas Creagan (43), Corey Drummond (46) and Peter Macadam (47) also broke 50 for the Wildcats.
