Stonington girls roll past Fitch in ECC D-I

Wins sets up a battle for the title with Woodstock on Saturday morning

Groton — Maddie Hamm won No. 1 singles and Stonington defeated Fitch 7-0 in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division I girls' tennis match on Tuesday.

Allison Marseglia, Holly Foster and Mia Lewandowsk­i also won in singles for the Bears (12-1, 4-1), who will play at Woodstock Academy on Saturay morning for the division title. Fitch is 9-5, 1-5. In other matches: • Sam Cote won No. 1 singles as Fitch bounced back to defeat St. Bernard 7-0. Sneha Kumar, Kavita Srirangam and Graysen Scherer also won singles matches for the Falcons (10-5).

• ECC Division II champion Waterford beat Woodstock 4-3. Autumn Brothers and Micky Green won singles matches for the Lancers (11-3) along with the doubles teams of Angela Dielli-Anika Jannatul and Nidhi Somineni-Nitya Somineni.

• Woodstock swept doubles play and beat East Lyme 5-2 in an ECC Division I match. Becca Paggioli and Yurina Shirai won their matches for East Lyme (4-6, 1-5).

• Bacon Academy's No. 1 doubles team of Mallory Scherff-Abby Burke pulled out 10-8 win to highlight a 4-3 win over Montville in an ECC Division III match. The Indians (4-9, 3-3) picked up wins from Rachel Liang and Angelina Sun in singles, and the doubles team of Ellie Adcock-Alexa Hartman.

Boys

• Aidan Sullivan won his No. 2 singles match in three sets (6-4, 1-6, 6-2) as Fitch defeated Ledyard 7-0. Max Cartier, Ian Straub and Noah Kennedy also won singles matches for the Falcons (8-3). The Colonels are 2-11. • A forfeit win at No. 3 doubles broke a 3-3 tie and led Montville to a 4-3 win over Bacon Academy. Jason Chen and David Baukus had straightse­t wins in singles and Ethan Thomas and Tony Lin did the same at No. 2 doubles for Montville (9-6).
