Convicted felon sentenced on gun-possession charge
A U.S. district judge sentenced a local felon Tuesday to 46 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for trafficking seven guns from Georgia to Connecticut.
Quadell Daniels, 32, pleaded guilty in March to one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
Tom Carson, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Connecticut, said local police so far have recovered three of the seven firearms purchased from Georgia pawn shops and sold in Connecticut: a Beretta BU9 Nano 9mm pistol, a Jimenez Arms J.A. Nine 9mm pistol and a Taurus PT111 9mm pistol.
Officials are working to locate the other four firearms, Carson said.
Daniels, arrested in December 2017, was free on a $100,000 bond while his case played out.
He was convicted in 2012 of second-degree assault, a felony.
Carson said the case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that uses multiple levels of law enforcement to reduce violent crime.
Daniels, formerly of New London, listed 13 Ledyard Ave. in Groton as his address when Groton City police charged him with second-degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, second-degree burglary and risk of injury to a minor March 8.
He is due to appear June 24 in New London Superior Court in that case.
