ADRIAN AND GAIEWSKI AWARDED JOHN KELLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Julia Adrian and Dan Gaiewski, both runners and graduating seniors at Robert E. Fitch Senior High School in Groton, have been awarded $1,500 scholarships by the John J. Kelley Memorial Fund.

Adrian plans to attend Endicott College, while Gaiewski will attend Franklin & Marshall College.

The scholarships, presented by Jim Roy, chairman of the memorial fund and Amby Burfoot, 1968 Boston Marathon winner, are given in honor of Kelley, a former Fitch teacher and cross-country coach who won the Boston Marathon in 1957 and competed twice in the Olympics.

The scholarships are awarded annually to Fitch seniors who exhibit kindness and good sportsmanship, two attributes that Kelley exemplified.
