Let’s all read
Seventeen years ago, when the “One Book, One Region Eastern Connecticut” series started, few folks probably believed that, at some point, the honor would go to a graphic novel.
Times change, and “Hey Kiddo,” this year’s selection for One Book, One Region — a reading initiative designed to bring people together to discuss ideas, to broaden the appreciation of reading and to break down social barriers — is indeed a graphic novel. Also a finalist for the National Book Award, “Hey Kiddo” is Jarrett Krosoczka’s touching and wise memoir about growing up in a family struggling with addiction.
“Hey Kiddo” will be formally introduced at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the BioCT Innovation Common in Groton. Ginny Anderson, assistant professor of theater at Connecticut College, will discuss the book’s themes in a presentation. After various groups read the book throughout the course of the summer, Krosoczka will give a guest lecture on Sept. 17 in Conn College’s Palmer Auditorium.
