Free-spirited
For pianist Michael Wolff and drummer Mike Clark, there is no spontaneity too spontaneous, no time signature too arcane, and no musical idea that can’t be explored.
Both are veterans of both the San Francisco and New York City jazz and funk scenes, from prestige dates with the likes of Bobby Hutcherson, Herbie Hancock, Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderly to six-sets/$25-a-night saloon gigs. Each was an experience and an opportunity, and it’s all reflected in the joy they bring to the bandstand as the Wolff & Clark Expedition. They perform, accompanied by bassist Ben Allison, on Friday at the Side Door Jazz Club.
