East Lyme advances to state Babe Ruth (13-15) title round

Waterford — East Lyme advanced to the championsh­ip round of the Connecticu­t Babe Ruth 13-15 baseball tournament with a 4-3 win over Waterford on Wednesday in an eliminatio­n game.

East Lyme will play unbeaten Norwalk on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Waterford Babe Ruth needing two wins to advance to the New England tournament in Westfield (Mass.).

A second game, if necessary, will be played on Friday.

Matt Bradley and Thomas Peck had two hits and stole two bases apiece for East Lyme while Peck, Harley Perreno and Cannon Dean had RBI singles.

Alex Roth pitched six innings to earn the while while Ayush Mishra pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the save.

Preston Taber had two hits, including a double, for Waterford, while Jack Lathrop added an RBI double.

Section 3 LL softball (10-12)

• Waterford clinched a spot in the sectional final when Haddam-Killingwor­th defeated Glastonbur­y 12-0. H-K will be the top-seed and play No. 2 Waterford on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Pawcatuck Little League. The winner advances to the four-team state final beginning Friday in Durham.

District 10 LL softball (8-10)

• Waterford advanced to the championsh­ip round against Groton/Mystic with an 18-0 win over Ledyard in an eliminatio­n game. Audra Fiano was the winning pitcher and added two hits. Addison Brothers also had two hits for Waterford, including an inside-the-park home run. Izzy Marlatt and Elizabeth Olmstead drove in two runs apiece for Waterford while Faith Dalton had two hits for Ledyard.

District 10 LL baseball (8-10)

• East Lyme defeated Waterford 8-7 in the first game of the championsh­ip round on Tuesday night, forcing a winner-take-all game for the District 10 title that ended too late on Wednesday night. East Lyme rallied for four runs in the sixth, trying the game on a two-run single by Harrison Papuga and winning on a sacrifice fly by Matty Resetar. Dustin Powers and JT Sheppard had multiple hit games for Waterford.

• East Lyme advanced to the championsh­ip round with a 1-0 win over New London on Monday night. Max Montejano and Papuga combined on the shutout for East Lyme, allowing only two hits and combining for 13 strikeouts. Papuga also had two hits for East Lyme while Caleb Smith did not allow a run over 4.2 innings for New London.

• The Pirates defeated Groton 11-4 on Tuesday night. Jeremy Sagun went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for the Pirates while Bryce Bedard was 3-for-3 with a double and winning pitcher Hendrick Khoury was 2-for-3 and scored twice. Liam Cocharne had two hits and scored a run for Groton while Mike Duran added an RBI double.

Zone 6 American Legion

• Matt Sanford had three hits during Waterford's 4-3 loss to Danielson on Tuesday night. Ryan O'Connell added two hits for Waterford (15-4).

Zone 6 Junior Legion

• Willimanti­c scored two runs in the top of the seventh to rally past Niantic 4-3. Ty Chiasson and Ethan Vinelli had three hits apiece for Niantic and Kevin Mills added two.

• Cristian Ward was the winning pitcher as Ledyard/ Pawcatuck edged Niantic 10-8 on Tuesday night for its first win. Vinelli doubled and drove in two runs for Niantic.
