“Just wait and see what happens to your local property taxes when the State is forced to redirect funds to pay for State Highways. Unless they are able to divert funds from someone else’s pet projects (defined as anything you don’t agree with) or find that mysteriously elusive line item for wasteful spending, the first thing to be cut will be aid to municipalities.” — Conrad Heede
“It makes sense, even in a state at the bottom of fiscal soundness nationally, to issue bonds for new roads and new bridges. It’s like getting a second mortgage to make your home larger or add a garage. Bonding for road resurfacing, a maintenance matter, is like using a credit card to buy groceries, insanity. Prudent homeowners budget for home maintenance, holding funds in reserve for repairs and replacement of wornout fixtures. Our state has a pathetic record of caring for properties no longer being used and, in many cases, properties actively occupied. A budget should distinguish between care and maintenance of existing infrastructure and the building of new infrastructure. Bonding for maintenance, insanity.” — Frank A Rybicki
“Frank Rybicki: Great comment. I’m not voting for a single incumbent. This has got to stop. We are the only people who can stop it.” — Scott Matson
“Interesting opinions .......... here is a little history lesson, prior to the second or third year of the Rell administration, Town Aid Road was funded with cash from the gas tax. A deal struck between the governor and legislature shifted TAR to borrowed money (bond money is a fancy word for being in hock up to our eyeballs). So for well over 10 years we have borrowed money to fund partial road work in local communities (there are no cities in CT more people live in Co-op City than most alleged CT cities). So when a Democrat, such as but not limited Senator Osten tells you that we need tolls, please use this example to explain to her that her party continually misappropriates the gas tax and gross receipts tax.” — Keith J Robbins
