January 2018 State seeks proposals for offshore wind projects. May 29, 2018 Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announces, at a news conference in New London, a $15 million investment at State Pier to be used for infrastruc­ture improvemen­ts and to help ready the pier for future use by the offshore wind industry. June 7, 2018 Port Authority issues request for proposals for State Pier operator. June 13, 2018 State selects Deepwater Wind to bring offshore wind power to Connecticu­t. Nov. 7, 2018 Deepwater is acquired by Danish energy giant Ørsted. Jan. 7, 2019 Port authority publicly announces a 20-year agreement with New Haven port operator Gateway to run operations at State Pier. Jan. 30, 2019 New London is cut into State Pier deal. Gov. Ned Lamont announces at a news conference in New London that the city will receive 10 percent of the Connecticu­t Port Authority’s share of the revenue from State Pier, and an annual $75,000 fee to defray the cost of police, fire and other city services. May 1, 2019 Gateway officially takes over operations at State Pier. May 2, 2019 Gov. Lamont comes to New London to announce the state has reached a harbor developmen­t agreement and the start of a $93 million investment at State Pier. June 19, 2019 Scott Bates steps down as port authority board chair; Bonnie Reemsnyder elected as new chair. July 9, 2019 Port authority officer manager Gerri Lewis separates from the quasi-public agency. July 12, 2019 Port authority Executive Director Evan Matthews is placed on administra­tive leave by Reemsnyder. July 24, 2019 Under pressure from Lamont, Reemsnyder resigns as port authority board chair amid reports the authority paid her daughter about $3,000 for photograph­s that hung in its office. David Kooris, deputy commission­er of the state Department of Economic and Community Developmen­t, takes over as acting board chair, and the port authority hires former Naval Submarine Base commanding officer Paul Whitescarv­er to help oversee authority operations in an interim role. July 29, 2019 Lamont begins to put in place oversight measures over the port authority, starting with review of all quasi-public agencies. Aug. 9, 2019 Gov. Lamont announces that he’s accepted Bates’ resignatio­n from the board and assumed more oversight of the port authority, including putting his budget director in charge of the agency’s financial decisions. Aug. 20, 2019 The General Assembly’s Transporta­tion Committee holds hearing on port authority issues, during which it is revealed that Matthews is on paid leave for comments made to the media “unbecoming of a public sector leader.”
