Iselin takes the O’Keefe 10K race

Waterford — Becky Iselin of Chester won the Jack O'Keefe Memorial Strides 10K road race on Sunday with a time of 45:55 with North Stonington's Karen Dobley finishing second in 46:41.

Stephen Dinsmore of East Lyme, the top men's finisher, was third in 50:24. Also finishing in the top 10 were Kara Kochanski Vendola of Norwich (50:39), John Sacrey of Preston (52:39), Pamela Flynn of New London (52:48), Suseline Nascimento of Taftville (53:19), Barbara Barnes of North Stonington (54:25), Sadie Iselin of Chester (55:29) and James Laudone of Preston (55:39).

Jeff Walker of Westerly won the 5K race with a time of 18:56. Lori Gatheral of Waterford, the top women's finisher, was fourth in a time of 22:08. Also finishing in the top 10 were Cameron Weber of Ledyard (20:37), Antonio Farinha of Preston (21:43), Brayden Zeldis of Milton, Mass., (22:20), Dylan Wininger-Sieve of Waterford (22:26), Brandon Chance of Voluntown (22:48), James Dosithee of Norwich (24:39), James Neff of Quaker Hill (24:43) and Anna Dubiel of Rocky Hill (24:48).

Men's tennis

• Nichols won four of the six singles and two doubles matches to beat Coast Guard 6-3 in the opening dual meet of the season. Banks Evans and Lucas Arora won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and they both won singles matches. Evans was a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 and Arora won 7-5, 4-6, 10-4 at No. 4.

College field hockey

• No. 4 Maryland scored twice in the second quarter and beat No. 3 UConn 2-0. Madison Maguire assisted on Linda Cobano's goal then scored to give Maryland (11-1) a 2-0 lead. UConn (10-2) had its six-game winning streak snapped.

H.S. girls' soccer

• Montville handed Ledyard its first loss, beating the Colonels 1-0 in an ECC Division III game on Saturday. Sydney Winakor scored in the first half with Kate Bowman assisting. Julia Beaupre made 15 saves for Montville (3-4-1, 3-0-1) and Savannah Wahrer made five saves for Ledyard (6-1, 3-1).

Men's soccer

• Mitchell College lost to Eastern Nazarene 4-0 in a New England Collegiate Conference game on Saturday. Seth Strader made four saves for the Mariners (1-8-1, 0-2).

Men's cross country

• Connecticut College finished 14th at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday. Danny Aschale led Conn with an eight-place finish (24:39) and freshman Jeffrey Love was 31st (25:03).

• Coast Guard finished 12th in the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday at Bethlehem, Pa. Jacob McGlumphy led Coast Guard with a 17th-place finish in a time of 25:59.

Women's cross country

• Meredith Cronin and Rachel House had the two fastest times in Conn College history on a 6,000-meter course as the Camels finished 18th at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday. Cronin finished 12th in 21:25 and House was 18th in 21:30.

Men's hockey

• UConn opened its season with a 3-3 tie against Sacred Heart on Saturday. UConn goalie Tomas Vomacka made a career-high 45 saves and Marc Gatcomb, Jachym Kondelik and Kale Howarth scored goals for UConn.

College sailing

• Conn College's co-ed team was seventh out of 18 schools over the weekend at the Truxtun Umsted Coed Showcase hosted by Navy. Tommy Whittemore and Paige Dunlevy were third in the B Division with 101 points. The women's team was 15th at the 16-team Stu Nelson Regatta on the Thames River. AnaLucia Clarkson, Aili Moffet, Marion Lemay and Ellie Pieper had a 154-point performance in the A Division.
