Groton — Constance Twilley, 74, who lived in Groton and Mystic for most of the last 50 years, passed away at Fairview in Groton Oct. 5, 2019, after an extended illness.

“Connie” was born May 10, 1945, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was the fifth of five children of Cornelius and Catherine O’Mahoney, formerly of Cork, Ireland. She was raised in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, and graduated from Thevenet Hall Academy in 1962. Connie first moved to Connecticu­t when her family was transferre­d to the Naval Submarine Base New London in 1966.

Connie worked for many years at the United States Coast Guard Academy, where she served meals to cadets for nearly three decades, and at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, where she hosted patrons at the casino’s buffet. Connie relished the love of her children and grandchild­ren, and enjoyed sewing, quilting and playing bingo with friends.

Connie is survived by her four children and their spouses, Mary Etter and her husband John, of Southingto­n, Susan Godley and her husband Jeffrey, of Groton, Jack Twilley and his wife Chrystal, of Seattle, Wash., and Richard Twilley and his wife Julie, of Glastonbur­y. Connie is also survived by her six grandchild­ren, Patrick Etter, Benjamin Godley, Elizabeth Etter, Gavin Twilley, Nicholas Twilley and Cordelia Twilley; her brother John O’Mahoney and his wife Patricia, of Salem, S.C.; and her sister Mary O’Donnell and her husband James, of River Edge, N.J.; along with five nephews and six nieces. Connie was predecease­d by her parents; as well as her sisters, Catherine Gallagher and Margaret Hesse; their husbands Thomas Gallagher and Gerard Patrick Hesse; and a nephew, Thomas Gallagher.

Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., and again from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at the Byles Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames Street in Groton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at Sacred Heart Church, 56 Sacred Heart Drive in Groton, to be followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New London.

Connie’s family extends its heartfelt appreciati­on to the entire staff at Fairview for the exceptiona­l care that they provided her over the last several months.

In lieu of flowers, mourners may remember Connie with a donation to a charity of their choice.
