New London home deserved saving

-

The address 313 Pequot Avenue was the site of the oldest house on Pequot Avenue, a rare survivor from the 18th Century and the childhood summer home of Eugene O’Neill. I say “was” since the new owners, buyers from out of town, have demolished the building and are building a glorified replica in its place. They have done so without getting necessary approvals.

I wish these new owners, and their architect, would have shown more respect for the ordinances of this city, and that they had tried harder to save this historic building. I wish they had had more vision. They could have built a new wing to the house, thereby having the modern amenities they require while preserving the old. We are all a bit poorer for the destruction of this ancient structure. Peter Kreckovic New London
