Fitch boys rally past New London

Groton — Fitch remained unbeaten by overcoming 14-point third quarter deficit to defeat New London 54-51 in a boys' basketball game on Saturday night.

The Falcons (6-0) held the New London (2-3) without a field goal in the fourth quarter while outscoring the Whalers 22-5.

Yahbriel Roman led a balanced Fitch attack with nine points while Seamus Greaves, Ajia Brown, Yaniel Hernandez and Kyhol Kershaw added eight points apiece. Graves also pulled down 12 rebounds.

Tayeshawn Cunningham-Pemberton scored 14 points to lead the Whalers and Sean Raymond added 12. In other games: • Xavier Marquez and Mason Jackson scored 12 points as unbeaten Norwich Free Academy built a 33-15 halftime lead and cruised to a 61-42 road win over Stonington. Blaise Beaucejour added 11 points for the Wildcats (5-0) while Zach Scott scored 12 points for the Bears (3-3) and Dorian White and Ayden Morrison added eight apiece.

• Bernard Hawkins scored 10 of his team-high 24 points in the first quarter as Montville beat Windham 58-52 to remain unbeaten. Antonio Brown had nine points and nine rebounds and Hawkins also had 10 rebounds, eight steals and six assists for the Indians (6-0), who were without starting point guard Eddie Reyes and forward Zach Southard.

• Riley Walsh had 17 points to help East Lyme to its first win of the season, 66-53 over Bacon Academy.

Nate Diaz had 15 points for the Vikings (1-4) and Sujesh Kurumbail scored 11. Nick Tiziani scored 17 for the Bobcats.

• Plainfield beat Wheeler 65-50. Ian Spracklin scored 19 points and Bowen Baker 17 for the Lions (2-3).

Girls

• Nyseannah Ishmael scored 12 points as Fitch outlasted Ledyard 36-29 in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division II game. Rita Sefransky added eight for the Falcons (5-2, 1-1) while Aliyah Dantzler made a pair of 3-pointers and scored six points for the Colonels (0-5, 0-3).

• Sophie Dubreuil made four 3-pointers and scored 26 to pace East Lyme to its first win of the season, 68-44 over Woodstock Academy in an ECC Division I game. Nadia Tarhini had 15 points for the Vikings (1-6, 1-1).

• Freshman Marissa Nudd scored 12 points as Bacon Academy defeated Waterford 46-38 in an early-season matchup of ECC Division II unbeatens. Caitlin Shea added 11 points for the Bobcats (5-0, 1-0) while Natalie Lombardi led the Lancers (4-1, 1-1) with nine points, Gaby Kramer added eight and Milena Walker finished with seven.

• Carly Potts scored 17 points as St. Bernard defeated Old Saybrook 37-32 in a non-conference game. Sophia Boras added 11 for the Saints (2-2) and Amber Caldwell pulled down 11 rebounds.

• Killingly outlasted Montville 4337 in an ECC Division III game. Maya Hillman had 19 points, 17 rebounds and five blocked shots for the Indians (3-2, 1-1).

• Zoe Ribeiro had 24 points and four steals as Stonington rolled to a 61-36 win over Griswold. Tori LoPresto added 14 points for the Bears (3-1) while Sophia Bell added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
