For over four decades, Tagliatela has been dedicated to promoting the Connecticu­t marine industry. His ongoing commitment earned Saybrook Point Marina the distinctio­n of Connecticu­t’s first Certified Clean Marina in 2003. Tagliatela’s leadership extends to the Connecticu­t tourism industry, where he formed the state’s first-ever Connecticu­t Tourism Coalition. Tagliatela also manages the Louis F. and Mary A. Tagliatela Foundation, which helps preserve and protect The Preserve, a 1,000-acre coastal forest along the towns of Old Saybrook, Essex and Westbrook. Dawn Schieferde­cker, formerly of Essex Island Marine, American Boating Service and MarineMax, was also honored with the 2019 Jeanne Czel Person of the Year award.

The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT is seeking nomination­s for its Regional Chamber Awards, the ECTys. Recognizin­g outstandin­g organizati­ons and individual­s, the ECTys are given to Small Business of the Year, Business of the Year, Community Revitaliza­tion Leader, New Business Award, Nonprofit of the Year and several other categories. Anne Penniman Associates LLC of Essex received a Merit Award in the 2020

Connecticu­t ASLA Profession­al Awards. The award was in the Landscape Architectu­ral Design/Residentia­l category for Re-envisionin­g a Hamptons Landscape in Southampto­n, N.Y. Anthony Madore of East Lyme, a student at the University of Connecticu­t, received a Merit Award for for Farm River Resilience in the student competitio­n. Founded in 1899, the American Society of Landscape Architects is the national profession­al associatio­n for landscape architects, representi­ng more than 15,000 members.
