Around the region

• Two UConn Avery Point men's basketball players received Region 21 honorable mention honors.

a sophomore from Waterford, earned the honor for the second straight season after averaging 13.2 points, a career-best 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He finished with a team-high 200 rebounds. Freshman averaged a team-highs in points (14.1) and assists (4.2) and had 2.2 steals per game. The Pointers went 16-14 and reached the Region 21 tournament semifinals. • Old Lyme's and Waterford's

of Avery Point were selected to the Region 21 first team while Ashley Burke of Putnam and Julitza Delgado made the second team. It is the second year in a row that Sanders earned the honor. She averaged career highs in points (19.3) and rebounds (19) per game and ranked second in the NJCAA in all divisions in rebounding. She finished her career as the program's record holder in rebounds (1,016) and holds the top two single-season marks of 560 in 2018-19 and 456 in 2019-20. In her first season, Stone led the team in points (23.2), assists (5.8) and steals (3.3) per game while ranking second in rebounds (8.3). She recorded two triple-doubles this season and finished 10th nationally in Division III in scoring. The Pointers finished 19-9 and reached the Region 21 tournament final for the third straight season. • Stony Brook senior a former East Lyme standout, won the 3,000 meter race and ran a leg on the winning distance medley relay team that set a school record (9:52.53) at the America East Indoor Track and Field Championsh­ip last month. Moffett finished the 3,000 in 8:09.46.

"Vann was excellent tactically in the 3K," coach Andy Ronan said in a school release. Moffett was named to the America East track and field All-Academic team with a 3.67 grade point average as a history/business major. He placed third in the 3K in the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championsh­ip in 8:08.57.

• Eastern Connecticu­t State University senior

who's from East Lyme, recorded two assists in a 14-2 women's lacrosse win over Mitchell College last Wednesday.

• Norwich Free Academy graduate was part of the ECSU field hockey team that qualified as a Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. Qualifying teams had a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0 last fall.

• Freshman right-hander a Ledyard graduate, made three appearance­s for the Hartford baseball team before the season ended. In 14.2 innings, he allowed 18 hits and eight runs while walking nine and striking out 10 with a 4.91 earned run average.

• Waterford's a senior pitcher, made six starts for the Stonehill College softball team. She posted a 2-4 record with a 5.51 earned run average, allowing 36 hits in 26.2 innings while striking out 15 and walking 13.

• Freshman a Stonington graduate, appeared in 25 games, starting 22, for the Massasoit Community College women's basketball team that went 24-1 and captured the Region 21 tournament title. She averaged 9.4 points and 10.1 rebounds. • Western Connecticu­t State University midfielder

Tracking the Bears

• Coast Guard Academy seniors and

earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference weekly awards for softball. McKenna was selected as the player of the week after going 11 for 17 at the plate with a double, six runs scored and three RBI while helping the Bears to five wins. Ferris, the pitcher of the week, went 4-0 with a 1.97 earned run average. CGA posted a 9-1 record in its Florida trip. • Senior was named the NEWMAC baseball pitcher the week after tossing a one-hit shutout in a 3-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran in Florida. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning. The Bears went 4-3 during their spring break trip.
