SOUTHEASTE­RN CONNECTICU­T FOOTBALL SCHOLAR-ATHLETE DINNER IS CANCELED

The Southeaste­rn Connecticu­t Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame announced Tuesday morning that it has canceled its annual awards banquet as local communitie­s deal with the coronaviru­s pandemic.

The event was scheduled for Sunday, April 26, at Lake of Isles in North Stonington.

Despite the cancellati­on, the chapter is still recognizin­g the top scholar-athletes for 2019 and will provide a plaque for each school to present the student-athlete at a future date.

Coast Guard Academy's Andre Horner was a recipient along with the following high school scholar-athletes: Andrew Cote (Norwich Free Academy), Brayden Grim (Ledyard), Noah Violette (Bacon Academy), Cameron Sousa (New London), Scott Galbo (East Lyme), Bryce Sullivan (Montville), Jonathan Creswell (Killingly), Ryan Bakken (Waterford), Cade Wolak (Plainfield), Cameron Aldinger (Fitch), Joshua Curtin (Stonington), Matthew DePonte (Griswold) and Alden Murillo Garcia (Windham).
