North Stonington/Pawcatuck wins CT Senior League baseball title

North Stonington/Pawcatuck defeated Rocky Hill 6-2 to win the Connecticu­t Senior League (15-16) baseball championsh­ip on Sunday.

It marked the first time District 10 participat­ed in Senior League baseball in over 10 years. The team, which went 3-0 in the tournament, included players from North Stonington, Pawcatuck, Groton and New London.

In Sunday's final, Rocky Hill jumped to an early 2-0 lead before NS/Pawcatuck rallied with five runs in the bottom of the third to take control. Kyle Kessler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score the first run before James Main and Dylan Cimini each followed with two-run singles.

Sean Bergel, in relief of Kessler, did not allow a run over 4.2 innings while giving up only two hits and two walks, striking out five.

LOCAL ROUNDUP District 10 softball (10-12)

• Waterford defeated Groton/Mystic 4-2 on Sunday as winning pitcher Ava Majeski did not walk a batter in a complete-game effort and Ava Waddington had two hits and drove in a run. Lucy Walker and Sophia Avin added RBI hits for Waterford while Katie MacPherson had two hits for Groton/Mystic.

District 10 baseball (9-11)

• Waterford Blue defeated Groton 23-1 on Sunday. Jacob Turner and Jax Nolda had three hits apiece for Waterford while Trey Flanagan, Thomas Flanagan, Chase Nolda, Riley Montana and JT Sheppard added two hits apiece. Rocco Wheeler had a double for Groton.

• Montville defeated Mystic 1-0 on Sunday as winning pitcher Chase Malbaurn allowed only two hits and struck out eight over four innings and Hunter Sylvia, Richie Walters III and Michael Watts each had a hit. Mystic pitcher Matteo Panciera allowed only three hits with seven strikeouts.

• East Lyme defeated Waterford Red 122 on Sunday as winning pitcher Matthew Resetar struck out six over four innings. Jacob Palermo had a single and three RBI and Karch Kaczor had a single and scored three times for East Lyme while Matt Valentino had a double and Sal Bonano two hits for Waterford Red.

District 10 baseball (10-12)

• Montville beat Waterford 7-4 on Saturday night as Luke Chapman pitched four scoreless innings to earn the win. Eddy Torres hit a three-run homer for Montville while Desmond Powers and P.J. Evans had two hits apiece. Matthew Shampine hit a three-run homer for Waterford and Alex Petrini was 2-for-3.
