Norwich ice rink to reopen on Labor Day

Norwich — The Rose Garden Ice Arena will reopen next week after a COVID-19 shutdown, announcing a September schedule for public skating, hockey stick time and pickup games and freestyle skating with coronaviru­s precaution­s in place.

All activities will be for registered participan­ts, with no walk-ins allowed.

The rink will open Monday, which is Labor Day, with hockey stick time and pick-up games running from 2 to 4 p.m. Freestyle skating sessions begin Tuesday from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. Public skating sessions will begin Wednesday from 1:15 to 3:30 p.m.

Space is limited for public skating. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for children, military and seniors. Skaters must call in advance at (860) 892-2555.

Hockey helmet, gloves and sticks are required for stick time sessions, and full gear is required for pick-up games. Stick time and pick-up game sessions are $20 per skater, with goalies admitted free. Participan­ts must register online at rosegarden­icearena.com. Goalies should email rink manager Shannon FitzGerald at Shannon.RoseGarden­IceArena@outlook.com to register.

A COVID-19 waiver is required for pick-up games.

Freestyle skating sessions are $30 per hour for non-Rose Garden or Ice Sports Industry members, and $25 for Rose Garden or ISI members.

All skaters (and guardians) must sign the rink’s COVID-19 policy release form. Skaters may be accompanie­d by one chaperone.

Face coverings must be worn, except by skaters on the ice. Coaches must wear face coverings on the ice. Guest coaches are welcome with proof of liability insurance.
