A note from the editor on the 2020 election
We have received an extremely high volume of letters from you, the readers, during this election period. For that we thank you. Unfortunately, given time, staffing and space constraints, we can’t guarantee all will be published. We will try our best and provide a fair sampling of the letters received.
The deadline for election-related letters is Monday, Oct. 26. Letters received after that date will not be considered for publication. We strongly urge you to submit letters via email or using the portal provided on theday.com. Click “Opinion,” then “Letters” to find it.
The Day Editorial Board will issue endorsements in the four local state Senate races after our series of Senate debates is completed this week. We also expect to issue an endorsement in the 2nd District Congressional race and have already endorsed Democrat Joe Biden for president.
We will not be issuing endorsements in the races for the state House of Representatives this year. Restrictions connected to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic prevented us from bringing House candidates in for interviews as we have in the past. Research tied to understanding and commenting on the dual economic and health crises also added demands on our time. We did not want to offer endorsements without full confidence in our recommendations.
While all members of the editorial board provide input, final endorsement decisions are made as a result of discussions between the editorial page editor and Day President and Publisher Tim Dwyer, with Mr. Dwyer having the final say.
