Jewett City — Lynn Marie Herbert, born in Norwich and raised in Jewett City, passed away Jan. 11, 2021, at Manchester Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Lynn progressed through Griswold Public Schools and graduated from Griswold High School, Class of 1980. Lynn was an exemplary student and athlete. She played No. 1 singles for the Griswold High School tennis team; and her skills culminated with her reaching the semifinals of the league tournament.

Postgradua­tion, Lynn worked at SNET in New London for 10 years. She then became a federal government employee, taking on numerous responsibi­lities as a health benefits adviser, Medicare volunteer and power of attorney dealing with stepparent adoption at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton. After leaving this position, she was employed in the Social Security Administra­tion for a number of years.

Lynn is survived by her father, Norman Herbert of Griswold; as well as her three older brothers, Glen Herbert and wife Peggy of Pawcatuck, Scott Herbert and wife Susan of Vernon, and Brad Herbert and wife Joan of Norwich. In addition, she is survived by her niece/goddaughte­r, Jen Herbert and her fiancé, Jason Oliveira, of Quincy, Mass.; her nephews, Saxon Herbert and Samson Herbert of Waterford; and numerous cousins and dear friends. Lynn was predecease­d by her mother, Edwina (Walczak) Herbert.

Lynn was a kind, big-hearted, loving person with a beautiful smile. She will be deeply missed. To quote Lynn, “Life is good, family is great, and great friends are the icing on the cake.” In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, there are no public services. A Celebratio­n of Life will take place at a later date. The Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Road, Jewett City, has been entrusted with the private arrangemen­ts.
