Griswold — Our beloved Stanley F. Harris Jr. (“Standing Oak”) went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 18, 2021, at Backus Hospital in Norwich. He was born Dec. 20, 1938, in Willimanti­c to Stanley F. Harris Sr. and Marion Sebastian-Curry.

Stanley was an elder and proud War Chief of the Mashantuck­et (Western) Pequot Tribal Nation. He worked within the Tribal Government and also served as Secretary of the Elders Council. He was a mechanical engineer at Electric Boat, a design engineer at PNL Hanford Nuclear site in Washington state and lent his expertise in various locations in and out of the country.

He most enjoyed woodworkin­g, hunting, fishing, and refurbishi­ng cars. He was the head coach of a boxing club, which was a tool for counseling youth.

He was known to lend an ear or give his advice while never missing an opportunit­y to teach the power of prayer, being sure to note the importance of relationsh­ip with the Creator. He was known as “Uncle Bucky” by his nieces and nephews; he had many titles throughout his life both personal and profession­al, but he is most proud to be called a warrior of Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Alice Harris, whom he married 60 years ago, Feb. 27, 1960; daughter, Tina M. Freeman; sons, Stanley F. Harris III, Brandon Harris; sisters, Marion Hatcher, Shirley Treffers, Reatha Jenkins; brothers, Pedro Johnson, Calvin Harris; eight grandchild­ren and seven great-grandchild­ren. He was predecease­d by Paul Harris (brother); and Hannah Marshall, who was a special woman in his life.

Stanley touched many people in his life and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services and burial were held Monday, Jan. 25, in the Pequot Spiritual Burial Ground.
