James Swinburne

— James “Swinny” Salem Swinburne passed away peacefully at home April 13, 2021.

Jim was born Dec. 22, 1945, in New London, the son of the late James G. and Elizabeth Swinburne.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Diane; son and daughter-inlaw, David and Donna Swinburne; daughters, Jessica and Elizabeth Swinburne; and five grandchildren. George Grimes, who has been with him through thick and thin, has been more like a brother than a best friend.

Swinny retired from CT DOT after 33 years in 2001, as a welder, mechanic and crew leader. Swinny loved to tinker in his garage, rebuild motors and restore his ’72 Chevy Nova. If he was not in the garage, he probably could be found in the woods of Maine, hunting.

The family would like to thank the Hartford Healthcare at Home staff, especially Nurse Cory, and the Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice care staff for all the care and support given to Jim over the last couple years.

At his request, there will be no services.
