Mystic — Joseph A. “Joe” Rubino Jr., 79, of Mystic, and husband of the late Glenda (Starling) Rubino, died unexpected­ly Monday, March 15, 2021, at home. Born in New London, he was the son of the late Joseph A. Rubino Sr. and Antoinette (Montrello) Rubino.

Joe was employed as chief of materials at Electric Boat for many years, retiring in 2000. Shortly after his employment with EB, Joe went to work for St. Patrick Church in Mystic, as property manager where he would spend the next 17 years up until his final retirement in 2019. He was also a former Connecticu­t Auxiliary State Trooper. He loved all sports, especially watching and rooting for his NY Yankees, NY Giants and the UConn women’s basketball teams. He was very active in Mystic Little League for many years, from coaching to vice president. Joe enjoyed camping, his several trips to Las Vegas, Nev., with his family and his garden, where he could always be found. He was also a life member of the New London Elks Lodge 360.

He is survived by his four children: Lisa Wisniewski (Stephen) of Groton, Laura Stack (Hugh) of Mystic, Joseph A. Rubino III (Vincent) of Hope Valley, R.I., and Timothy Rubino and his fiancée, Denise Picou, of Houma, La.; his seven grandchild­ren, whom he loved dearly: Jennifer Stack, James Stack (Jackie), Katherine Elwood (Alex), Ashley Oliver (Matt), Brianna Wisniewski, Alexandra Wisniewski and Ryan Rubino; along with four great-grandchild­ren: Jadyn, Glenda, Matthew and John; his sister Marie Nourie of Mystic; and sister-in-law Donna Starling and her fiancé, Kenneth Main, both of Stonington; former daughter-in-law Sarah Rubino of Colchester; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife of almost 50 years, he was predecease­d by his goddaughte­r Roberta Makepeace; a brother-in-law, Robert Nourie, who was more like a brother; and his beloved pets, Jeter, Autumn Rose and Skeeter. Joe touched so many lives and he will surely be missed.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 14, at St. Patrick Church, 32 East Main St., Mystic. Following Joseph’s Mass, he will be buried at St. Patrick Cemetery, Mystic. There are no calling hours. Please consider a donation in his memory to
