Sarah Betsey

-

New London — Sarah Jane (Zeigler) Betsey, 77, of New London entered eternal rest Sept. 22, 2021. She was born in Quincy, Fla., on Nov. 1, 1943, to the late Ella Louise (Henry) Zeigler and Arguster Zeigler.

Sarah was proudly the youngest girl of her siblings. She attended Steven Elementary School in Quincy, Fla. At a young age Sarah didn’t finish school for various reasons. In 1961, Sarah joined Willie Betsey in holy matrimony. In search of better work opportunities, they moved to Connecticut along with two daughters, Linda and Janice. After putting down roots up north, she then had Shirley followed by Tara years later. As she began to establish a family with morals and values acknowledging the importance of education, Sarah desired to set an example for her family. While in her 50s, Sarah received her GED from Adult Education of New London.

As a child, Sarah attended New Bethel A.M.E Methodist Church. In the ’70s, Sarah joined Pentecostal Rescue Mission C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of the late Pastor L.C. and Ethel Fisher. Up until her passing, she still served as a faithful member of the church under the current leadership of Pastor Nathaniel Scott Sr. One of Sarah’s proudest moments was giving her life to Christ. She loved to worship, serve and praise God.

Sarah was predeceased not only by her parents. She was predeceased by four daughters, sisters, a brother, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Godchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Homegoing service for Sarah Betsey will be held Oct. 2, 2021, at Pentecostal Rescue Mission C.O.G.I.C, 29 Blackhall Street, New London. All planning to attend are REQUIRED to wear a mask. A viewing will start at 9 a.m. and the service will start at 10 a.m. The interment will be private. A celebration of life will be held starting at 1 p.m. at The Polish Club, 51 Crystal Ave., New London.

The family of Sarah Betsey would like to thank you for all acts of love, care and support rendered thus far.

Sarah felt love was life’s most important task and lesson. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for people if she could do it. As we lay Sarah to rest, we say to her what was often said every night before going to sleep growing up in the Betsey household, Sarah, Goodnight. God bless you and we love you.

Services and care are entrusted to the Lester Gee Funeral Home New London. Please visit www.lestergeefh. com for a full obituary.
