Bacon bounces back from first loss with easy baseball win over Vikings

Colchester — Alex Blanchette and Steven Laliberte each had two hits, including their first varsity home runs, as Bacon Academy bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 10-3 baseball victory over East Lyme on Monday.

Blanchette and Laliberte also scored twice and drove in two runs for the Bobcats (11-1), who were coming off a 12-7 to Fitch on Saturday.

Blanchette hit a two-run home run in the third inning and Laliberte had a solo home run in the fourth.

Jack Novak went 3-for-4, including two doubles, with three RBI for Bacon (11-1) and Dan Shane went 2-for-3 and scored twice. Chris Lusignan (4-0) went the distance and struck out seven.

A.J. Montejano had an RBI double and scored for the Vikings (7-6) and Pete Sherwood added an RBI double.

In other games:

• Quinn Speller went 3-for-3 with three runs and Quinn Sylvia scattered five hits with four strikeouts and an earned run as Waterford downed Westerly, 19-3, in a five-inning game. Jackson Long went 2-for-3 with three runs, Jack Lathrop went 2-for-3 with two runs and Sean Salvador went 3-for4 for the Lancers (10-4).

Softball

• Maddy Stepski was 4-for4, including a home run, with three runs and three RBI in Stonington's 16-2 win over Putnam. Cami Brown went 3-for-3, including a triple, with three RBI, Lola Worsdale hit a three-run home run and Carli LoPresto went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Bears (6-3).

• Caity Flynn combined to pitch a no-hitter with nine strikeouts as Norwich Tech defeated Grasso Tech 22-3 in a five-inning Connecticu­t Technical Conference game. Hanks also had a single, home run and three runs scored while Morgan Cook had a single, home run and four runs, Flynn had a double and two runs, Khai Maldonado two hits and three runs and Emily Grant two hits and two runs for the Warriors (8-1).

Boys' lacrosse

• Robbie Darling scored five goals and Erik Howey scored the decisive goal in Williams School's 17-14 win over Harvey School. Sterling Frost added three goals and two assists for the Blues (7-3, 4-1 HVAL) while Brendan Li scored three goals, Cody Delaurenti­s had two goals and three assists, Brian Li had two assists, Mar Macera had a goal and an assist and goalie Colby Potts stopped 23 shots.

Girls' lacrosse

• Sarah Newton scored six goals as Bacon Academy outlasted Haddam-Killingwor­th 13-9 in a non-league game. Maddox Burton added three goals and three assists for the Bobcats (6-4) while Skylar Gustavsen scored twice and Joely Stella and Neely Hart each had one goal and one assist.

• Valley Regional beat New London, 14-3. Nadya Murphy had two goals, Aislinn Strecker scored and Abby Hurst had 10 saves for New London (0-7).

Boys' golf

• Cam O'Connor earned medalist honors with a 41 as Stonington defeated Griswold 7-0. Ethan Torres added a 44 for the Bears (4-5) while Ryan Fasula and Gennaro Laavdo each shot 56 for the Wolverines (0-4).

• Portland's Luke Stennett shot a 37 to earn medalist honors and lift the Highlander­s to a 165-202 win over Old Lyme in the Shoreline Conference. Pat Flanagan led the Wildcats (1-5, 1-5) with a 45.

Girls' golf

• NFA's Molly Plecan earned medalist honors as the Wildcats swept a tri-match against Bacon Academy and Waterford at Norwich Golf Course. Plecan shot a 53 as NFA (4-0) had stroke total of 253, beating Bacon (273) and Waterford (274). Mia Belcamino shot a 59 for Bacon (1-2).

Boys' volleyball

• Jared Enciso had 18 assists, three aces, two digs and one kill to highlight Norwich Tec's 3-1 win over HMTCA. Game scores were 25-20, 25-8, 26-28 and 25-19. Connor Owen added five kills, four digs, two aces and an assist for the Warriors (2-6) while Tenzin Samten had six aces, six digs, five kills, one block and one assist.
