Lyman Memorial clinches ECC Division IV baseball crown

Putnam — Lyman Memorial wrapped up the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division IV baseball title with a 10-3 win over Putnam on Saturday.

The Bulldogs, after a long run of Division IV titles, went 9-8 in the regular season in 2021 as St. Bernard won the title. But Lyman returned its entire starting lineup from that team. Veteran coach Marty Gomez knew this team had the potential to get the title back.

"We played a lot of sophomores and freshmen last year,'' said Gomez. "And almost everybody played summer ball last year and a lot of them even played in the fall.''

Jared Russo picked up his third win of the season — all in relief — and singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice. Mike Incontro also singled, doubled, scored twice and drove in a run for the Bulldogs (12-3, 6-0).

Softball

• Kaitlyn Scribner and Aubree Nygaard combined to pitch a five-inning no-hitter as St. Bernard beat Tourtellot­te 17-0 in an ECC Division IV game. Nygaard was also 3-for-4 with a double, triple, three RBI and scored three runs. Angelica Tompkins had two hits, scored three times and drove in three runs, Ariana

Guinassi doubled, tripled and drove in two runs and Sophia Novak drove in a run for the Saints (10-3, 6-0).

Girls' lacrosse

• Lauren Friedrich scored eight goals as NFA beat Killingly 16-4. Molly Page had five goals and two assists and Alice Rourke had a goal, three assists and 12 draw controls. Baylee Wilderman made 11 saves and Hayleigh Young and Leah Burchman scored goals for the Wildcats (5-7).

• Kaci Pierce and Meg Nagle scored three goals each as East Lyme beat Glastonbur­y 13-11 in a nonleague match. Sydney Sager had two goals, Greta Schwartz and Lily Poletto had a goal and an assist each and Alanna Benoit, Dani Bruno and Abbie Belleville had a goal each for the Vikings (8-3). Gigi Franco made six saves for East Lyme.

• Fitch lost to Weston 18-7 in a nonleague game. Rita Sefransky had three goals and an assist, Bridget O'Leary had a goal and two assists, Elaina Brookhart made 13 saves, Maddie Corbiel and Sophia Clang had a goal and an assist each and Allison Sousa had a goal for the Falcons (5-5).

Boys' lacrosse

• Anthony Ballestrin­i scored four goals and had two assists as NFA beat South Windsor 12-7 in a nonleague game. Sam Sweeney made 26 saves and Logan Jenkins had two goals and an assist. Tommy Brunelli, Alex Gravelin and Quinn Perkins each had a goal and an assist and Nolan Brown, Conor Gaughan and Connor DeVega each scored a goal for NFA (7-4).

• Guilford beat Waterford 4-3 in a nonleague game. Anthony Stone scored twice, Jake Kozlowski made 14 saves and C.J. Landry and Trevor Stringer had a goal each for Waterford (8-3).

Boys' track

• Charles Cabusao of Fitch finished fifth in the javelin at the Middletown Invitation­al with a throw of 128-2. Thomas Forde, Raj Bokhiria, Amill Houston and Carson Riley of Fitch were sixth in the 4x400 in 3:51.30.
